Likes:
Performing- Sawagu prefers the fun of being someone else and bringing other people happiness over the attention that he gets when performing. He does it for love of the art. The attention's just a nice bonus.
Carousing- Wine, women, song... where can you go wrong?
Chatting with people- People are fun. Sawagu likes to establish a rapport with strangers- makes it easier to have fun with them!
Learning new stories- Sawagu lives in one long epic story, emulating the characters he learns about. So, the more stories he learns, the more material he has to work with.
Swimming- One of the few really personal traits of Sawagu. He just enjoys the feel of the water around him.
Hates:
Silence- It's unnatural to him, and drives him crazy. Sawagu will fill silence with anything he can.
Staying in one area for more than a few weeks- He's just a ramblin' man. The longer he stays in one place, the more he wonders what it's like in other places.
Getting hit on by guys- It happens. A lot. Sawagu looks like a girl, but he has no romantic inclinations toward men.
Hobbies: Being a one-man show, just sitting back and listening to the world around him, making up stories
Good points:
Chivalry- Sawagu is a really nice guy. He'll go out of his way to be helpful to people.
Sense of adventure- Our Hero will throw himself into any battle or quest he hears of if allowed to.
Adaptability- No matter what comes up, Sawagu can usually react to it immediately, almost as if he expected it to happen.
Flaws:
Romanticism- Sawagu sees the world as a giant epic adventure story. As such, he has a tendency to put too much faith in the heroes to come through in the end, for love to triumph over everything, and for things to come up roses no matter what.
Passivity- As a troubadour, Sawagu feels that it's his job to entertain people, and generally stands back in a fight, content to egg his party on.
Fickeness- He's never satisfied with what he has. Sawagu is always looking at something glistening just over the horizon, wondering what else is out there.
Appearance
Hair: Many people mistake Sawagu for a woman at first sight. His multicolored hair reaches down to his hips, tied back in a low ponytail by a burgundy bow, although two thin braids twist down either side behind his ears. The texture is wavy, much like a river, an effect supported by the fact that his hair contains streaks of indigo, violet, sea green, and even silver. His bangs hang a bit in his eyes.
Face: Sawagu's skin is tanned from the time he spends outdoors, although nature has been kind and not wrinkled it with the weather. It sits smoothly on his thin face. From behind rose-tinted rectangular glasses, his sea-green eyes observe the world with a gleam. Below his thin nose, Sawagu's lips commonly hold a serene smile.
Voice: Soprano. Alto. Tenor. Bass. Sawagu's voice can hit every one of these parts, and reach even farther beyond, even past the point of normal human hearing. In addition to this talent, he can imitate any voice and any sound he's heard flawlessly, usually on the first try. Therefore, it's difficult to describe his normal voice; Sawagu's picked up so many different "voices" in his life that he almost never sounds the same twice. One way to conclusively identify him (most of the time) is to listen for a habit of almost singing his words.
Build: Sawagu's build is quite average. He's neither tall nor short, and while he does sport a bit of muscle and a bit of pudge, neither goes into the range where it would be noticeable. His posture and movement tend to vary depending on what sort of "role" he's playing.
Clothing: Starting from the bottom...
Sawagu's feet are protected from the terrain by dark gray boots. The tops are flipped over, revealing a burgundy lining and gold piping. In front of each is a triangular slit. Tucked into the boots is a pair of loose, billowy, dark green trousers. Above these is an equally billowy cream blouse with a high collar. Over the blouse, Sawagu wears a sleeveless burgundy waistcoat/vest, which cuts off at the hips in front but reaches to his knees behind. The waistcoat's edges are decorated in gold lace. Around the neck, tucking into the vest is a dark green cravat.
Personality
Usual Moods:
Sawagu can be compared to a river- He's always changing, keeping only a few basic traits. He's generally an enigma to those who first meet him, displaying seemingly random changes of heart and mood swings, although he's usually quite affable and friendly. Those who've been around him for a while notice that he adapts himself to the general surroundings constantly; if there's a slight mood change in the setting, he instantly picks up on it, something like a canary in a mine shaft. (Only it isn't fatal to him.)
Character Interaction:
The Thaumus of sound is quite unpredictable. He's spent so much of his life playing different roles that he isn't quite sure himself who he really is. He "casts" himself based on what other people around him are: if he's surrounded by warriors, he becomes a more peaceful influence to balance things out. On occasion, there'll be a call for a warrior role, which is one part that Sawagu almost never plays. He'll usually end up becoming a "soldier for hire" if that need arises, acting as a sort of mercenary and only attacking if ordered to.
Personal Interaction:
In spite of his constant changing, there are a few base traits that Sawagu maintains throughout. One is a value for life: He will not kill anything unless he has a good reason to- if he needs to eat it, sure, if it's in self-defense, that's fine. However, no circumstance will allow him to take a human life. Another trait is his distinct interest in noises: if he has nothing to do, one can generally find Sawagu sitting out in the open someplace, staring into space and just listening to everything. It takes a bit of work to get his attention at times like that, since he won't really register what's being said to him.
There has been one recent event that has made an impact on the senshi of sound: a recent breakup with his girlfriend, one Ichimu Aijou. He's started to try and fit in his recent misfortune with his world view; the current theory is that it's supposed to set him up for a new girlfriend (or something like that), although he's understandably wary of getting into a new relationship. Once bitten, twice shy...
Way of Life:
Sawagu sees life as one big dramatic adventure, and he's constantly supplying characters fo it. Unfortuantely, he sees it in terms of the rules of drama: The Good Guys always win, the Bad Guys will engineer their own downfall, Love conquers all, there will always be a Happy Ending. If anything happens to subvert these rules, Our Hero chalks it up to a plot twist and assumes that everything will resolve itself in the end. While this optimism can keep him going when the chips are down, it also allows him to do some pretty darn stupid and occasionally suicidal things. One of these days, he's not going to make it out alive.
Sawagu is a wanderer by nature; if he's in one place for more than a few weeks, he starts to go absolutely NUTS. He feels like he has to experience everything in order to truly live, and if he's in one place too long, it all gets too boring. Similarly, he has trouble being around the same people all the time. He's willing to hang around with a group for as long as he's needed, but once the "adventure" is over, he's out of there! His other big hangup, predictably, is silence. If he can't hear anything, Sawagu goes REALLY nuts. He'll end up babbling and making ANY sort of noise to distract him from the big gaping hole of soundlessness.
History:
Sawagu was born to a pair of rather wealthy nobles. He was supposed to be an heir to their house, but preferred to spend his time wandering with his lower-class friends. While at home, he'd follow his parents' rules and act the way they wanted him to, but the moment he was out of their sight he'd be out of the manor and on the town. This understandably caused problems, until a younger brother was born. With his sibling there to bear the weight of nobility, Sawagu was free to take on the carefree life he'd desired without worrying about his family ties.
In his teens, Sawagu joined a travelling theatre troupe, where he quickly made lots of friends and established himself as the leading actor. It's hard now for most of the members to recall a time when Sawagu WASN'T there- he's been that much of a fixture in the group. For a long time, he was content to go around, carouse in various towns while not performing, and be free and independent. This changed when he met Ichimu Aijou, a middle-class girl from Iopa.
Sawagu was amazed to find someone who was 1) willing to follow him around everywhere and 2) didn't end up boring him after a year and a half, and, in his usual manner, had assumed that this was true love and that they would stay together through a million battles, et cetera et cetera. Imagine his surprise when Aijou left him a week before their second anniversary because he was too unpredictable. Yes, this was one time in his life where something caught him entirely off-guard. After a week, Sawagu managed to pull himself together enough to act like he's okay- he's a very good actor, after all.
Just after this breakup, Sawagu had a bizarre dream. Of course, with all his education (gotta expect it from a noble guy) Sawagu knew immediately after it ended what it meant- he was now one of those wacky people that tended to duck out of dangerous situations, change clothes, and come in to kick butt and take names. Only he didn't have the kick butt sort of powers that many of the other senshi did... But hey, he was Thaumus Siren. Of course, he hasn't seen any battles yet...
Current Situation
He's still with the troupe, still wandering, and, as far as anyone can tell, just the same as always.
Kingdom
Suara
Sawagu's homeland is a craggy, mountainous region of forests and mists. Most of the inhabitants have developed strong voices- people need some way of finding each other in the fog. The chief exports are lumber and opera singers.
