History
Filia deVeris was born premature, and had to stay for a few weeks at the hospital before she could go home with her parents. She was a rather sickly child, spending much of her time in bed. One day her parents bought her a puppy to keep her company. Within weeks, the three-year-old Filia was starting to get out of bed and move around somewhat. By the time she turned five, she was even more active than most children, and had amassed a small fortune in dogs, hamsters, and one cat-- her parents kept giving in to her pleading for another pet.
Kindergarten was an adventure. Her teachers nicknamed Filia "the Whirlwind" for her neverceasing activity. All her report cards said pretty much the same thing-- "Plays well with others" and "Needs to finish schoolwork." Contrary to most children, Filia never had a single "best friend." She considered herself friends with all her classmates, even the boys that pulled her hair and said she had cooties.
Things didn't change much on into middle and high school; puberty whooshed through and did a number with the girl's body, but left her mind more or less untouched. She still considered everyone to be nice and friendly, and anyone who acted otherwise was "just having a bad day." She still didn't stay still in class, and she still never managed to finish anything in class. By this time, Filia's house had turned into a Zoological/Botanical Garden, and her father had decided to spend most of his life at the office and away from all the dander and pollen that lurked at home.

NPCs
Camille deVeris
Filia's mother, a slim, petite woman in her 40s. She has carefully curled red hair with a streak of gray in the bangs and hazel eyes with laugh lines around the edges. She also has creases in her forehead from worrying about her daughter and staying too late in her office. Camille really loves Filia, but often feels that she isn't connected enough to the girl. She tries to be the kind of mom you see on television, and tends to get amusingly frustrated when things don't work out.

George deVeris
Filia's father is tall, bony, and dark-haired. His blue eyes peer out from behind thick spectacles; he's been gazing too long at a computer monitor. His skin is pale, since he's never outside, and whenever he's at home he's constantly sneezing and blowing his nose. George doesn't suspect his wife of cheating, but wonders how Filia ever managed to be his daughter.

Filia doesn't really have any particular "best friend," having devoted most of her energy to being everyone's friend.
