Age, Birthday, Astrological Sign

Check the application and webpage to see if there's any maximum/minimum age requirement for characters. Age brackets are usually there for a reason. Some games, for example, rely on all the characters hanging out together, and how often are you going to find an adult associating with teenagers on a daily basis, or teenagers with a five-year-old? Try to avoid deviating too much unless you have a good reason.
If for some reason you absolutely HAVE to play a character under 14, make sure you're familiar with the development of kids. They start getting more or less coherent verbally around three years old, and start trying to be teenagers around age 9-12 (with girls generally starting earlier than boys). Puberty, with its hormones, acne, and extra growth, generally hits girls around ten or eleven, and guys around twelve.
If there's no age limit, consider playing a character over college age. The novelty alone should get the reviewers of your app to pay more attention, and playing someone so wildly different can be a blast.

Unless you have a good reason, try to keep your character's mom from giving birth on a holiday. If you just can't resist, try finding a lesser-known holiday or one from another culture. For example, instead of Halloween as the day the Chosen Warrior of Thanatos, God of Death appeared on the Earth, what about the Mexican Day of the Dead- November 1 or 2? Or, if you're willing to do a little extra work in finding dates, the Chinese Mid-Year festival (the fifth day of the seventh month on the Chinese calendar) could work just as well. Still just as relevant, and more original. You may also want to avoid birthdays at the beginning or end of a month. For some reason, those seem especially popular.
Make sure the birth date you've chosen for your character falls within the dates of her astrological sign. If it's near the border between two signs, try to incorporate parts of both signs in the personality.

Check out the profiles of other characters in the game and see if there are any signs that are overused. Usually, Pisces, Gemini, Scorpio, Leo and sometimes Taurus are in the majority. Probably the least used star sign is Capricorn.

If your character has an element or theme, keep that in mind when choosing her star sign. Here's a list of some of the things associated with the various signs:

Finally, a hint: Don't post a summary of the traits of your character's sign. Most reviewers either know enough about astrology not to need it or don't really care. It's a pretty useless bit of information, and usually just annoys the reviewers.
